Shelton is an interesting town. Settled by the English in 1639, originally as a part of Stratford. In 1789 Shelton was split off as its own entity. The name Shelton was taken from a manufacturing village started in the late 1860s which was named The Shelton Company founded by Edward N. Shelton. Another interesting fact, to us, is that he was the founder of Housatonic Water Power Company. The rapidly growing Borough of Shelton, Connecticut incorporated as a city in 1915 and was consolidated with the town of Huntington in 1919, establishing the present city of Shelton.
